KLIUC: A Comprehensive Professional Pathway

KLIUC: A Comprehensive Professional Pathway
To Architectural Qualification

Some describe architecture as an outward expression of the inner inspiration, and architects are those who shape our buildings with creativity, and in return, empower our buildings to shape us with imagination.

No matter how you want to put it, architecture is indisputable a professional field of study that requires careful planning and thorough formulation. And its practitioners, the architects, who strive to accommodate our building requirements into practical realities, irrefutably need the finest hands-on training and comprehensive theoretical knowledge. Not just to make sure the built structures are safe for human shelter, but also to ensure their creations contribute to the overall beauty and harmony of its surrounding environment.

At Kuala Lumpur Infrastructure University College (KLIUC), all the discussions above have been scrupulously taken into account in its syllabi planning, and one who wishes to be a qualified architecture generally has to go through three to five years of professional level education along with productive practical training.

In fact, KLIUC is one of the very few higher learning institutions in the country that provides a complete and comprehensive route of study, from diploma up to the Part II-equivalent professional degree, in order to endow its architectural students with full power to pursue their dreams of building the world of tomorrow.

Although the academic route might sound backbreaking, but hard-won qualification always leads you to a bright and promising career prospect. Malaysian Institute of Architects had revealed in their study that a professional architect in Malaysia has to serve a population of nearly 17,000, as compared to the ideal ratio of 1:8000. This statistic has spoken in volume about the high demand and employability of architects in the country. After all, hard works will be paid off.

Even though nothing much can be done to ease the weary study route, as it is the necessary mean to build up students’ competency in the profession that cannot be compromised, KLIUC is well ready to guide you through the path with its carefully designed architectural programmes.

KLIUC’s architectural programmes are aimed at giving students a thorough grounding in architectural design along with the skills to address and integrate a broad range of related areas. Besides exposure to the history and contemporary theories of the built environment, students will also be equipped with an understanding of sustainable design solutions within the built environment. Other aspects of study such as structural system, materials and construction techniques, and not to forget, human environmental impact within buildings, are all the important parts of the programmes’ core.

At present, KLIUC is offering three comprehensive undergraduate architectural programmes at the level of diploma and degree. Diploma in Architecture is designed to suit the needs of SPM or O-level leavers. While STPM, A-level and diploma holders, upon meeting the minimum requirements, are eligible to pursue Bachelor of Science in Architectural Studies. This qualification is equivalent to the Part I of Architects Professional Qualification conferred by the Board of Architects Malaysia (BAM). You should be able to pursue a career like technical assistant or assistant director with this earned qualification.

Upon completion of the first degree above with minimum CGPA 2.00, graduates are qualified to pursue Bachelor of Architecture, a Part II-equivalent professional qualification.  Graduates with this qualification can register with the BAM as Graduate Architect, and are qualified to start out as a designer, project manager, resident architect, interior designer, and assistant architect.

Graduates may also opt to proceed with their final level, Part III Professional Examination after acquiring practical experience prescribed by BAM. Upon passing the examination, graduates can register themselves as Professional Architect with BAM and embark as principle architect, principle designer, and assistant architect.

All the three programmes above offered by KLIUC have been approved by both Ministry of Higher Education (MoHE) and Malaysia Qualification Agency (MQA). In addition, KLIUC’s Diploma in Architecture is fully recognized by the University of Tasmania (UTAS), Australia. Its graduates may choose to pursue the university’s Bachelor of Environmental Design (Architecture) with up to two years advanced standing, and can complete the programme in a year.
