GOOD START FOR KLIUC’S DANCERS

Prepared by Pn. Intan & Janagi

When the invitation letter of Festival Tari Piala Tun Dr. Siti Hasmah 2009 was handed to the advisors, it was only two weeks left for the club to prepare for the event. Thus, the club members had to make a fast decision on accepting or rejecting the invitation. Everyone in the club including the advisors were excited to participate but the time constrain was the main factor that worried us. However, if we were to reject it, we would have denied the skills and capabilities of the club members and lost one of the biggest opportunities that could be the starting point to move ahead and gain a valuable experience. By the time we chose the choreographer, it was only ten days left before the big event. But for us, it was a competition that we had always wanted to hone our talents, and gain an amazing experience in performing arts beyond our normal boundaries (with-in KLIUC).

The event took place on April 22, 2009 at 8.30 pm in Multimedia University (MMU), Cyberjaya Campus. It was organized by the Stage Art of Traditional Malay Group (SAKTI), MMU. The VVIP of this event was YABhg Tun Dr Siti Hasmah Bt. Hj Mohd Ali, Chancellor of Multimedia University. It was a competition of Malay cultural dance which requires each team to perform three traditional folk dances which were Zapin, Joget and Inang. A cash prize of RM1000 and a trophy were waiting for the champions meanwhile the RM800 (with trophy) and RM500 (with trophy) were for the first and second runner-ups. Besides that, there were also few special category prizes for each traditional folk dance and best costume.

UPAG team from University Petronas Malaysia took lead with a performance that was smooth and technically well-executed which made them this year’s champion whereas the last year’s champion, Gerak Tari Puteri Perak from University of Technology MARA (Perak Branch) was chosen as the first runner-up.

The second runner-up went to KLIUC’s Puteri Kaseh Ashilah team which won in their first ever attempt in joining a prestigious competition. The surprise and joy continued with the announcement of special prize win for the Inang category that rewarded us with another RM200 and a trophy. Competing against more experienced performers from various established IPTS and won made these achievements even meaningful. What more we only created our group name on the day of the competition itself!

This competition marked the beginning of our (KLIUC Performing Arts and Choir Club-KPACC) journey in gaining new knowledge and experience in the art scene. These memorable feats will serve as a great motivation for us to strive for more victories in the future. We believe with our talent, courage and spirit we can help bringing up the university’s name to a commendable level. It is our pledge to KLIUC, that we would perform at our level best in all upcoming competitions and bring pride and joy to our beloved university!
